Social-Emotional Book Clubs
What if summer reading could do more than improve literacy?
What if a great story could also help children better understand themselves, navigate friendships, build confidence, and strengthen emotional resilience?
This summer, Ness360 Psychology is excited to offer Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Summer Book Clubs facilitated by Pam Gawley, LMSW, designed to help students grow both as readers and as people.
Through engaging books, guided discussions, and interactive activities, participants will explore important social-emotional skills while connecting with peers in a supportive and fun environment.
Why Social-Emotional Learning Matters
Children learn valuable lessons from the stories they read. Through characters' experiences, challenges, mistakes, and triumphs, they gain opportunities to explore emotions, relationships, problem-solving, and perspective-taking.
Books provide a safe way to discuss difficult topics and practice important life skills. They allow children to ask questions, consider different viewpoints, and reflect on how they might respond in similar situations.
Our SEL Summer Book Clubs use literature as a springboard for meaningful conversations that help children develop emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills that extend far beyond the page. Including:
Build self-awareness and self-management
Strengthen social awareness and relationship skills
Practice perspective-taking and empathy
Develop communication and problem-solving skills
Explore engaging stories through guided discussions and fun activities
By examining the choices characters make and the challenges they face, students learn to connect literary themes to their own lives in age-appropriate and meaningful ways.
